Grandmothers to Grandmothers Walking in Solidarity
On June 12th and 13th, 2010, grandmother groups across Canada took a walk to show their support for the courageous and resilient grandmothers of Africa who are caring for children orphaned by AIDS, and changing the course of the pandemic in their communities.
Stride to Turn the Tide was a grassroots initiative brought forward by a grandmother group in Canmore, Alberta that spread across the country.
The walk was:
- a show of solidarity
- a way of raising awareness in our communities, and
- a strong pledge to the African grandmothers that we would raise as much money as we possibly could with every footstep across Canada
