Grandmothers groups organize events to raise awareness and funds in support of community-based organizations that support African grandmothers and the orphan and vulnerable children in their care.
Use the calendar below to see what events grandmothers groups are planning in your area!
A ticket to the dinner includes your choice of a bowl made and donated by local potters (which you keep), chili to fill your bowl, corn bread muffins, a glass of wine, and a dessert made by the local Grannies, plus coffee or tea. There are two sittings, one at 5 p.m. and one at 7 p.m. The cost per ticket is $40 with all proceeds going to the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Purchase tickets by contacting Josie Emmett by email, or visiting the Kitchen Boutique in Canmore or Banff.
Join Grannies All About Kids for breakfast and a book exchange, and peruse a beautiful selection of jewellery (both Kazuri and gently used pieces) and scarves. Tickets are available from the event organizers.
OMAS SISKONA (= grandmothers together) of Kitchener-Waterloo will host an “Off the Wall” sale of two-dimensional, new and recycled art (paintings, prints, posters) in Waterloo on May 6, 2017 in support of the work in Sub-Saharan Africa of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. All proceeds from the sale will go directly to SLF’s grassroots projects which assist African grandmothers who are raising a generation of children orphaned by the AIDS pandemic.
If you have pieces of art that no longer fit on your walls but that you would like to give new life to on someone else’s walls, please get in touch with us. A volunteer will contact you to pick up the items. Thank you for your support.
