3. Stride to Turn the Tide - We Want You!!! Submitted by Pamela Farron
Grandmother groups across Canada are coming together on June 12th & 13th to walk, in solidarity, to show their support for the courageous and resilient grandmothers of Africa who are caring for children orphaned by AIDS. WE WANT YOU, along with your family and friends, to come and join us in the incredible initiative.
The scarves are beginning to arrive across Canada. Everyone who has seen them has been commented on how beautiful they are. We still have a few available so contact your local grandmother group representative to order the same.
Walks within the various communities range from 1 km to 14+km. Examples of things that communities are doing include engaging an African choir and drummers before the walk begins, having bagpipers lead the walkers, and providing other forms of entertainment throughout the day. Smaller grandmother groups are joining together in a central location to form a larger walk. Some groups are engaging their local political representatives (MPs / MLAS and municipal officials) to join in the walk. Participants from one grandmother group are even climbing a mountain. All of this to show support, and raise funds, for the African grandmothers!
Please consider participating in this important event. If you have any questions contact Pamela Farron, Chair, at
