The Salt Spring Grand(m)others to Grandmothers are presenting an evening with Sally Armstrong. An Order of Canada recipient, multi-award-winning journalist, author, and human rights activist, she has covered stories in Swaziland, Bosnia, Somalia, Rwanda, Congo, the Middle East and Afghanistan.
“I have written for over two decades about women who dared to take on the extremists who highjacked their culture and religion and seek emancipation,” says Armstrong.
Grand(m)others to Grandmothers is delighted that Sally Armstrong has so generously offered her time and expertise to benefit the organization’s ongoing fundraising efforts on behalf of African grandmothers who are raising families orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
Here’s a list of Sally Armstrong’s books:
Veiled Threat: The Hidden Power of he Women of Afghanistan (2002)
Bitter Roots, Tender Shoots: The Uncertain Fate of Afhanistan’s Women (2008)
The Nine Lives of Charlotte Taylor (2007)
Her new book, being published March 1, 2013, examines the state of the world’s women and the dawning of a new age that’s altering the status of women everywhere.
Tickets are $20 and available online at https://tickets.artspring.ca
All proceeds from this event go to the Grandmothers Campaign.
